‘Abdullah ibnAmr narrated that the Prophet (SAW) said: “It will be said to the companion of the Quran: Recite and rise in status, recite as you used to recite in the world, for your status will be at the last verse that you recite.”
This hadith was classed as saheeh (authentic) by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah,
Al-Tirmidhi (2914) and Abu Dawood (1464)
It is no doubt that memorization of the Quran emerged into a continuous tradition across the centuries, with centers/schools for memorization being established across the Muslim world. In these schools, students learn and memorize the Quran along with its Tajweed, at the feet of a master who in turn acquired the knowledge from his teacher, an ‘un-broken chain’ going all the way back to the Messenger of Allah (SWT), Prophet Muhammad (SAW). The process usually takes 3-6 years. After mastery is achieved and the recitation checked for lack of errors, a person is granted a formal license (ijaza) certifying he has mastered the rules of recitation and can now recite the Quran the way it was recited by Prophet Muhammad (SAW), the last Messenger of Allah (SWT). In recent times Muslims have gone one step further and have introduced online Quran reading classes and online Quran memorization classes which are provided by digital Islamic academies where a person can even learn Quran reading online with tajweed. Online Quran reading classes and online Quran memorization classes are very similar to regular classes that can be attended at any mosque or institutes and in many cases are actually superior in some regards to attending physical classes. Those who learn Quran reading online with tajweed have access to a brilliant and learned scholar who has in depth knowledge about all the aspects of the religion of Islam and can answer any question that a learner might have about this great religion.
