Teaching children about Islam and the Quran are highly important for any Muslim parent. Especially in today’s world where due to the actions of a few fanatics, the name of Islam is dragged through the mud by the media. As Muslim children in the west face misinformation and hate for their religion on a daily basis, it can eventually lead to their faiths becoming weaker and in severe cases, they might even abandon their faith altogether. The reason why Islamic youth around the world is so overwhelmed when they face arguments based on science and cultural integrities against Islam is simply due to the fact that they themselves do not have any type of significant understanding and knowledge about their own religion that they can use in an intellectual capacity to defend Islam and clear the misinformation other may have regarding it. This is a fundamental problem facing the Muslims today and the primary culprits in this scenario are the parents. Parents today are so caught up with insignificant things compared to their children in today’s world that they don’t even have time to sit or chat with them, thus teaching them about Islam becoming out of the question. What they have to realize is that children are a trust from Allah (SWT) to them and if they fail in their religious upbringing, than they will be answerable not only in the afterlife but in this life as well. Most parents complain that they themselves don’t know about Islam and can’t find a good teacher. In today’s world where online Quran teaching and schools that provide classes to learn Quran online for kids exists, this is a rather weak excuse. Online Quran teaching has become especially popular in western countries and Muslims across the world who are unable to find good teachers should really look at this alternative and fulfils their duty towards their children.
