Online schools have become increasingly popular in this world in the last decade or so. Islamic schools have also come into existence where people can not only learn about Islam but can learn spoken Arabic online along with Quranic Arabic lessons online and these schools offer the opportunities to learn Quran at home. When distance learning first became popular, it offered very little variety of courses that a person can join. Nowadays however online institutes provide all kinds of courses including Islamic and language such as Quranic Arabic lessons online or the more commonly sought out courses where a person can learn spoken Arabic online. The attraction to the concept that allows people to learn Quran at home is what has made this technique of learning the holy book so popular. However as with everything, there are both pros and cons of online education some of which are as follows:
• Flexible schedule –Students can schedule Quran classes at their convenience, making it possible for them to keep up with other responsibilities.
• Availability of programs –A variety of Islamic courses are provided by online schools and people can chose according to their needs.
• Access to courses 24/7 – Online Quran courses can be accessed at any time by the students and can be schedule according to their timings.
Then there are some very significant cons to online education but these all do not necessarily apply to online Islamic education such as:
Social interaction – Online students don’t have the social interaction with fellow students, which can be helpful for understanding purposes.
Student/Instructor interaction – Online students have limited interaction with instructors and may have to wait for hours for reply to questions though this is not the case where Quran education is concerned.
Technology problems – Disconnection and faulty technology can lead to significant loss of time and knowledge.
