We live in a fast-paced world. Technology has made our lives easier and worlds smaller. We can stay in touch with more people, do more things in less time, and enjoy the access to luxuries like never before. But even then, most of the people complain about an empty feeling. It feels like something from life is missing. Human beings are always in search of contentment. The million-dollar question is: where would one find contentment and satisfaction?
Humans, today, look for happiness and satisfaction in material things. But a matter of fact is such happiness does not last long. If you buy a new house, for example, it will bring you happiness but after a while, even a thing on you which you spent a fortune and that has stayed so close to you, will lose its charm. We need something that will bring lasting peace to our hearts.
Quran gives an answer to this question:
“Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured.” [Quran 13:28]
Quran provides solace through its recitation and the guidance. It is a light which illuminates our hearts and makes us see the path of the righteous. The peace of being close to Allah is immense and only those who have experienced it can bear witness. Even if the life presents one with turbulence, the contentment attained through Quran and Allah’s guidance keeps one strong and depression at bay,
Allah has created humans and He knows the needs of our hearts well. It is in the words and remembrance of our Creator that we find satisfaction. Quran is a form of mercy and kindness from Allah Subhana Wa Ta’ala because it cures one of the discomforts of heart and emptiness:
“And We send down of the Qur’an that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss.” [Quran 17:82]
The above verse emphasizes the miracle of Quran which is the healing of sadness and discontentment. We, as believers, should take advantage of this treasure of happiness and guidance to lead our lives.
Allah’s Messenger (Peace Be Upon Him) said:
“Quran is a remedy for Illnesses of the mind.” [Bukhari]
The hadith refers to issues like depression, emptiness, and unexplained sadness.
Often a person away from Allah Ta’ala experiences emptiness. This distance may also result in the person deviating from the path set by our Lord. The Holy Book cleanses hearts and tends to set us on the right path, thereby, curing us of our dissatisfaction. Let the beautiful words of Allah Subhana Wa Ta’ala wash away the discontentment of our souls.
We must recite Quran regularly and try to understand the messages it has by either learning Arabic or by reading translations; we will be bestowed with the best of this life and the hereafter, in shaa Allah.
