Allah has blessed His creations with countless blessings. Among the various gifts, guidance to the right path is the greatest. He sent Prophets in the world who conveyed the messages of the Lord to the people of their time and geographical location. As the mankind progressed, Allah (S.W.T) deemed them mature enough to understand the entire religion, and, hence, the last of Prophets, Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H), was sent to the world.
Allah’s Last Messenger (P.B.U.H) came with the teachings for all the Muslims, not only of his era or country but of the entire world and the generations to come. Allah (S.W.T) holds Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) in utmost esteem. Allah says in Qur’an:
“Surely the Prophet has a greater claim over the believers than they have over each other…” [Qur’an, 33:6]
Also, in a hadith, Prophet of Allah (P.B.U.H) said:
“None of you will have faith till he loves me more than his father, his children, and all mankind.” [Bukhari]
The above verse and hadith indicate that since the Prophet of Allah (P.B.U.H) has been the ultimate source of guidance, Muslims are required to follow him more than their own wishes or those of their close relatives’. His teachings will help us succeed in this world as well as in the Hereafter. This is an evidence of how important he (P.B.U.H) is to Allah (S.W.T).
Allah Ta’ala and His angels also send blessings to Muhammad (P.B.U.H):
“Indeed, Allah confers blessing upon the Prophet, and His angels [ask Him to do so]. O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [Allah to grant him] peace.” [Qur’an, 33: 56]
Nothing can emphasize the honour of Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H) more than this verse. Allah Ta’ala loves His Prophet (P.B.U.H) so much that not only does He send him the blessings Himself but also commands His angels to do the same. It is a way of expressing affection towards the esteemed Prophet (P.B.U.H). Muslims should follow the lead of the Lord of the worlds and send blessings (durood sharif) to the Prophet (P.B.U.H).
Durood Sharif is loved by Allah Ta’ala, and He will reward those who recite it. In a hadith, Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) tells us about the rewards of Durood Sharif in these words:
“Whoever supplicates Allah to exalt for me, Allah would exalt him ten times.”[Muslim]
Also, on the Day of Judgement, when we will all be needing deeds and a way to get closer to the Prophet (P.B.U.H), Durood Sharif will be our savior:
“On the Day of Judgement, the person closest to me will be the one who has sent the most Durood into me.” [Tirmidhi]
Sending blessings to the last Prophet (P.B.U.H) is a Sunnah of Allah (S.W.T) and His angels and is a rewarding act. We must regularly send our blessings to our Guide (P.B.U.H) as much as we can. May Allah accept our deeds and bring us close to Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) on the Judgement Day.
