Allah has made his blessings evident on is however the Honey Bee. The insect with aerodynamics that defied traditional laws of physics which for decades have puzzled scientist as they have tried to figure out how it can fly, is smaller than an average thumb but you will be amazed how these small insects have an impact on not only our wellbeing, but on society and even economy as a whole. There are so many honors given to this creature from Allah (SWT), through Whose blessing this insect produces a substance that is a cure for all mankind which is honey, that there is an entire Surah of the Holy Quran has been named after it. That is of course the 16th Surah of the Quran, Al-Nahl.
Allah (SWT) says in the Quran;
Then eat from all the fruits and follow the ways of your Lord laid down [for you].” There emerges from their bellies a drink, varying in colors, in which there is healing for people. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought.
(Quran Surah An-Nahl Ayah 16:69)
This verse of the Quran is a clear reference to Honey that is produced by these bees, and Allah (SWT) has clearly stated its benefits, calling it a healing for people. Unlike most insects that are found particular areas of the world, the Honey Bee is found across the earth.
In a hadith, Abdullah bin Masud(RA) has reported Allah’s Messenger (SAW) as saying: “Make use of two remedies, Honey and Quran.”
Honey from the days of old has been a source for not only food but also medicine. It is collected made by bees from the nectar and contains a mix of sugars, acids, mineral, enzymes, vitamins, etc. to make it one of the most nutritious and digestible foods known to man.
The Prophet (SAW) has also told us of the healing found within honey for a variety of medical problems, including stomach ailments. One hadith, reported by Bukhari, states that a man came to the Prophet (SAW) because his brother had a stomach disorder and the Prophet said to him”Let him drink honey.” The man returned a second time and again the Prophet (SAW) responded again, “Let him drink honey.” The man returned again, and said “I have done that.” The Prophet (SAW) then responded, “Allah has said the truth, but your brother’s stomach has told a lie. Let him drink honey.” He drank it and was cured.
Following are benefits that are proven through science about Honey.
Easy to Digest
Because sugar molecules in honey can convert into other sugars (e.g. fructose to glucose), honey is easily digested by the most sensitive stomachs, despite its high acid content. It helps the kidneys and intestines to function better.
Compared to other amounts of sugar, Honey gives 40% less calories to the body. Meaning it can give energy to the body but not weight.
Diffuses into Blood Quickly
When accompanied by mild water, honey diffuses into the bloodstream in 7 minutes. Its free sugar molecules make the brain function better since the brain is the largest consumer of sugar.
Honey provides an important part of the energy needed by the body for blood formation. In addition, it helps in cleansing the blood. It has some positive effects in regulating and facilitating blood circulation. It also functions as a protection against capillary problems and arteriosclerosis.
